Social Infrastructure Planning

About the Special Interest Group

Social or community infrastructure is at the heart of neighbourhoods and places. This infrastructure offer vital spaces for services to be delivered and people to meet and participate in community life. Social infrastructure planning in Local Government has a distinct function that intersects with many other disciplines including: assets and service planning, open space planning, urban planning and social planning.

Tasked with the responsibility of planning the future of multi-million dollar and multipurpose projects, Social Infrastructure Planners work closely across Council, with data and the community to help influence the urban fabric.

Our Objectives

The LGPro Social Infrastructure Planning Special Interest Group aims to bring together like minded professionals who want to:

  • Advance best practice in social infrastructure planning
  • Improve processes and systems in the planning, development and maintenance of social infrastructure
  • Develop innovative solutions
  • Share and obtain new ideas in the field.

Special Interest Group Involvement

For a successful Special Interest Group, we encourage all in the group to be actively engaged with our online forum, in hosting events and leading working groups and activities. Additionally all are encouraged to become convenors of the Special Interest Group to lead delivery of our Special Interest Group objectives. Periodically, we'll call for expressions of interest in a convenor role, although if you'd like to become a convenor we're keen to hear from you anytime.

Online Teams community

This Special Interest Group is supported by an online community. We believe that accessing knowledge from individuals who work in a similar environment is invaluable and should never be underestimated. Our communities are only for people working in Local Government and there are many benefits to participating in them. They are a great way to keep in touch in between meetings, by asking your fellow colleagues questions and sharing resources. You can also see who else is involved and get in touch with them quickly.  Agendas, minutes, presentations and other resources will also be posted on the online community.
