Advanced Project Management

Course overview

Project management is an essential skill in all local governments and all departments. It’s part of the day-to-day job and this advanced program takes a deep dive into project management theory and looks at both the operational and strategic elements of project management.

Building on the introductory and fundamental skills and underlying theory on planning, executing, and managing projects on time and on budget, Advanced Project Management is the next stage for those who are actively managing projects.

This course is designed for individuals who have completed LGPro's introductory project management course and/or wish to expand their project management skills with more advanced tools and techniques.


Key learnings:

This advanced course covers: 
Preparing a project management plan.
Critically establishing a schedule, from planning to estimation of tasks and timings.
Developing and managing change controls in a project environment.
Integrating and managing opportunities and risks.
Project governance throughout the project lifecycle.
Project review, progress reporting and performance reporting.
Project leadership.

Our facilitator:

Lisa Twyford is a highly motivated professional with extensive business improvement, change and project management experience, with direct experience working alongside the Local Government sector.

As Managing Director and founder of Clear Decisions, Lisa delivers business services across a wide range of industries to clients such as Elders, Minter Ellison Lawyers, South Australian Cricket Association (SACA), SA Water, University of South Australia, SA Power Networks and Zoos SA. 

Lisa works across five key business support areas: strategic planning, business analysis and improvement, change management, project management and training.

Cancellation Policy: LGPro is an independent member association and all money generated is used to develop quality professional development activities and services. Our events and programs are budgeted on a minimum number of attendees so providing us with sufficient notice regarding non-attendance is imperative to the success of all our events. Where a substitute delegate cannot be appointed, the following will apply for any cancellations:

7+ business days prior the workshop: full refund and/or transfer available
6 business days prior the workshop: no refund available, however substitute participants are welcome.
A substitute delegate is encouraged to attend in place of a cancellation.

All cancellations and substitutes must be received in writing by LGPro.
