Election Period Workshop Series

Elections 2024: Preparing for Caretaker Mode
About the Workshop

This limited-run offering helps officers navigate the 2024 local government elections slated for October.
With local governments needing to implement election period or ‘caretaker’ policies, the half-day workshop helps officers understand how they can operate effectively in the lead up to and during the transition.
Learn what needs to be prepared now to meet election period obligations, from restrictions on major decisions to limits on communications including digital content, advertising, and social media.
Understand the requirements for separating the organisation from the election process and the standards for maintaining the council’s reputation in the lead up to the election.
Meet with officers with similar obligations across the sector and share policies, procedures, and ideas.
Designed for officers working across governance, media and communications, elected member support roles, this workshop has further learnings relevant to all officers preparing major events or openings for new assets, or any other significant major decision likely to be required between September and December 2024.
