Australasian Management Challenge

The Australasian Management Challenge is a development program that provides real life problem solving experiences and produces outcomes that translate into relevant, tangible and enduring benefits for people, teams and organisations. It's also good fun, great value and a hands-on approach to leadership development. The annual challenge brings Council teams together from across Australia & New Zealand.

About the challenge 

Teams of five or six members (from any level of Local Government) undertake tasks alongside other participating Councils that typify management in the Local Government environment.

With the aid of an in-house mentor and detailed preparation kit, teams spend time together in the weeks preceding the regional event to develop their skills, get to know each other's strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies. They also need to complete a Pre-Challenge Task that is counted towards the team's final assessment.

The challenge provides an opportunity for team members to develop their skills and become more effective in the way they:

  • Communicate
  • Negotiate
  • Analyse
  • Decide
  • Engage
A regional challenge is held in Victoria and the winning team competes in the national event.

2021 Challenge

Key dates for the 2021 Management Challenge are:

  • Registrations open December 2020
  • Early bird team fee available until Friday 22nd January 2021
  • Registrations close Friday 12th February 2021
  • Pre Challenge Task to be released on Wednesday 17th February 2021
  • Pre Challenge Task due Wednesday 31st March 2021
  • Victoria event will take place 26 May 2021  
  • Final to take place in August 2021
