About the conference

Our Annual Conference is held in Melbourne each February.  It is the largest specialist Local Government conference in Australia offering professional development and networking opportunities for people working at all levels in the sector. The conference generally begins on a Wednesday afternoon with specialist workshops focusing on areas of interest for Local Government and offering tips and tools to help participants in their role.  

2019 Annual Conference

Dates: Wednesday 20 February from 12.30pm and Thursday 21 February from 8.30am

Venue: Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre

Theme: The New 3Rs – Respect, Relate and Resilience

Target audience: Officers working at all levels in Councils across Victoria

This year’s program features:

  • Gillian Triggs, an Australian academic specialising in public international law and former President of the Australian Human Rights Commission

    Susan Alberti, a prominent philanthropist who has donated millions of dollars to medical research and other charitable causes

    Kon Karapanagiotidis, CEO and founder of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre

  • Presentation by the 2018 LGPro Emerging Leaders Program participants who will explore the concept of attracting a younger workforce to the sector

  • Short Talks
  • Dr Kerrie Shiell, clinical neuropsychologist

    Nick Pearce, co-founder and CEO of HoMie

    Alon Cassuto, leadership and behaviour change advisor

    Jessica Moody and Ilana Charnelle Gelbart, founders of Deafferent Theatre

  • Workshop by Peter Merrett, an internationally recognised speaker who has steered organisations around the world to business transformation and stand out customer service

  • Feature session – a fun quiz where the knowledge of some CEOs from across the sector will be put to the test!

Conference App

At this year’s conference, we will be using the LGPro event app. In line with our commitment to being more sustainable, the app will replace our printed program and also enhance the experience of our delegates. The app contains the full program, speaker profiles & resources, maps, attendees list, session evaluations, general information including things to do near the Convention Centre and everything else you need to know to ensure you get the most out of the conference. Stay tuned over the next three weeks as we will be regularly updating the app.

1. Open the following URL on your phone or alternatively search Elements Event Portal in the App Store. 
2. Download the applicable app to your phone (please select ‘for attendees’).
3. When entering in the event code, please enter in "lgproac"

Annual Conference Dinner & presentation of the 2019 Awards for Excellence

The Conference will culminate with the Annual Conference Dinner which incorporates the presentation of the 2019 LGPro Awards for Excellence.

This will start with pre dinner drinks from 6.20pmn followed by the dinner at 6.50pm.

Winners of the 10 categories in the 2019 Awards for Excellence will be announced during the dinner. Entertainment will be provided following the presentation of the awards.
Individuals, Councils and LGPro Corporate Partners are welcome to reserve a table of 10 for the dinner.

Highlights 2019
