Social Media Conference

About the Conference

We are looking forward to welcoming back the Social Media Conference on Thursday 13 October at Q Functions, cnr Queen and Little Collins Streets, Melbourne.  This year's conference is all about maintaining meaningful connections and about harnessing the power of social media to rebuild connections in new ways, drawing on lessons hard-learnt during the pandemic.

Social media is now one of the most prominent channels councils use to disseminate information, monitor evolving situations in the community, provide guidance, and observe public opinion. It’s not just a communication tool though; savvy councils are using social media to minimise loneliness and tap into ordinarily hard-to-reach audiences. But this all serves to feed our growing reliance on its use.

This conference will explore the latest in best practice in continuing to meaningfully connect with communities and evolving our use of social media when faced with challenging circumstances. The program included a keynote speaker, interactive sessions, lightning talks and fishbowl sessions focusing on topics of interest and problems that delegates would like to see solved.

This event is popular with people working at all levels in communications to learn about the latest trends and how social media is working well in other Councils.

One of the most popular sessions at the Social Media Conference are the lightning talk sessions.  This year we are again seeking four councils to present a lightning talk on an innovative initiative that has come about as a result of the pandemic or learnings gained from previous experiences and/or mistakes. Not only do they present an opportunity to share learnings with other councils but are a great professional development opportunity as well.  If you are interested in participating, please complete the Expression of Interest form below and email to [email protected] . Expressions of interest are open until Friday 17 June however places are limited, so get yours in asap.
