As part of the development of New Best Value guidelines, the Guidelines Working Group are seeking case studies from councils that showcase the way in which the local government sector has been effectively implementing elements of Best Value Victoria into their organisations and communities. We are interested in examples of proposed future application of the Best Value Principles.

Below are areas of interest for the case studies. Please note this list is not exhaustive, nor is it intended that the case studies be restricted to these areas. The topics in the list are merely examples to provide some guidance.

• Incorporating the Best Value Principles into a continuous improvement framework
• Involving Councillors in the Best Value process
• Methods of consultation (eg consolidation, cross functional)
• Ways of engaging communities – hearing from other than the ‘usual suspects’
• Making a connection to the Council Plan
• Applying the Best Value Principles to the organisation through council planning activities
• Measuring performance, implementing improvements
• Conducting service reviews, eg what role will service reviews play? What other types of reviews might occur (thematic, cross functional etc)?
• Reporting to the community
