LGPro is the peak body for Local Government professionals in Victoria. We develop and deliver high quality professional development activities and services, facilitate positive communication between the sector and State and Federal Government, and represent the views of officers where this expert advice is required in the consultation process on legislation and policy and program development. While we are a member organisation, non-members access many of our activities and services.

Local Government Professionals was created in 1996/97 through the merger of the Victorian branches of three organizations; the Institute of Municipal Management, the Institute of Municipal Engineering Australia and the Victorian Municipal Community Services Association.

Our members across the state represent the professionals of Victoria's 79 Councils.

In addition to our focus on Victorian Local Government we are:
- the Victorian Division of Local Government Managers Australia (LGMA)
- the Victorian Association of the Local Government Community Services Association of Australia (LGCSAA)

- Advance fellowship and communication amongst local government professionals and strengthen members’ professional status and integrity
- Recognise excellence amongst those who have made a significant contribution to local government.
- Anticipate and meet the professional needs and aspirations of its members and the future requirements of the local government industry generally
- Develop partnership mechanisms which recognise both the separate and combined values, needs and opportunities for policy and program development in strengthened relationships between local government professionals, Councillors, Councils and related industries and organisations.
