The LGPro Emerging Leaders Program is a local government specific leadership program based on a combination of expert input and an experiential learning model. The Program provides extensive interaction amongst program participants.
The objectives of the Program are to:
- Develop people who will lead Local Government in Victoria in the future.
- Develop people who will lead at all levels in their Councils.
- Provide an opportunity for participants to network with emerging leaders from different professions to build stronger links and understanding between professions.
- Increase appreciation of the wider issues in Local Government in Victoria.
- Utilise the resources of the Local Government sector to provide practical experiences of leadership within the Local Government context.
- Provide training for emerging leaders that is not necessarily "management" focused.
- Retain emerging leaders within the Local Government sector.
Acknowledgements
The ELP participants of 2006 would sincerely like to thank LGPro, and particularly Tony Matthews and Yvonne Crouch, for the hard work they have put into organising the program and providing us with the opportunity to participate in this challenging development program.
There have also been a fantastic number of guest speakers, from within and beyond the local government area, who have shared their time and knowledge with us. This has been outstanding and has provided us with insight into leadership, management, and development techniques from various organisations and perspectives.
It also goes without saying that we would not have got through the program without the support of our councils, CEOs and particularly our mentors. Thank you all very much for supporting us and the program for the past year.
